Stories for reflection

Client stories & case studies.

These fictional scenarios offer a practical look at the questions someone might bring to non-therapeutic coaching. They describe possible reflection, not real clients or promised outcomes.

Three possible starting points

A question can be enough to begin.

Each example stays with context, reflection, and a step the person chooses for themselves. There is no single right answer or required result.

SCENARIO 01

Illustrative scenario — fictional, not a real Avenrow client account.

Career transition and decision-making

Considering a career transition

Context

A person has grown less connected to a role that once suited them. They are curious about different work, while unsure whether to leave, what to look for, or what practical limits matter most.

A possible exploration

The scenario begins by separating what feels important from what feels urgent: values they want in their working life, responsibilities they need to account for, and information they could gather before making a decision.

A reflection

What would I want to carry into a different kind of work, and what do I still need to learn before choosing a direction?

A self-directed next step

Write down three things to carry forward and one low-pressure conversation or piece of research that could answer an open question.

SCENARIO 02

Illustrative scenario — fictional, not a real Avenrow client account.

Navigating change and uncertainty

Finding footing during a period of change

Context

A person is adjusting to shifting circumstances at work and at home. Some details are settled, others are outside their control, and it is difficult to tell which question deserves attention first.

A possible exploration

The reflection makes room to name what is known, what is still changing, and what choices remain available. It does not assume that every uncertainty can or should be resolved right away.

A reflection

Which part of this change is mine to respond to today, and which part can remain open for now?

A self-directed next step

Make two short lists: what is known and what is still uncertain. Circle one question that would be useful to explore next.

SCENARIO 03

Illustrative scenario — fictional, not a real Avenrow client account.

Meaningful goals and decisions

Weighing a meaningful goal and a decision

Context

A person has a goal that matters to them, alongside current responsibilities and more than one possible route forward. They want to decide what a realistic next move could look like without losing sight of why the goal matters.

A possible exploration

The scenario considers what gives the goal meaning, what each option asks of the person, and which small action could create useful information. A complete plan is not treated as a prerequisite for reflection.

A reflection

What makes this goal meaningful now, and what is one small step that fits the life I have today?

A self-directed next step

Choose one action that is small enough to try this week, then decide when you will pause and review what you learned.

Two different kinds of stories

Fictional scenarios are not testimonials.

Case study

A case study is a structured scenario about someone’s context and the reflective process that could help them think. These examples are fictional and describe possibilities, not client outcomes.

Testimonial

A testimonial is an actual client’s own words, published only with their explicit consent.
